When he talks to teenagers about the Internet, FBI special agent Dan Vierthaler often encounters a strange lack of awareness.
They all know that “www” is short for “World Wide Web,” Vierthaler said, but they tend to think of the Internet primarily as an interactive tool that keeps them connected with a relatively small group of people, most of them friends.
What they don’t seem to realize, he said, is that if you post something on the Internet, “it’s gone forever and you have lost all control over it.”
