PARENTS are failing to play their part in tackling bullying. An exclusive Galaxy Poll for The Courier-Mail has revealed that more than 80 per cent of those polled believe parents are not doing enough to prevent bullying.

And about three-quarters want a ban on mobile phones in schools.

The findings coincide with the release of shocking new research on rising violence among young females, and concerns about a cyber-bullying epidemic. Schools have not escaped criticism. Three-quarters of those surveyed in the poll said schools could be doing more to tackle the scourge.

Education Queensland recently hired national bullying expert Professor Ken Rigby in an advisory role, which includes conducting professional development with staff and working with parent organisations.
