Statement regarding the U.S. Justice Department motion to intervene in the federal lawsuit pending against The Mohawk Central School District
FRIDAY, JANUARY 15 — The United States Justice Department has filed a motion to intervene in a federal lawsuit pending against the Mohawk Central School District. The New York Civil Liberties filed the lawsuit in August on behalf of a student, alleging the district didn’t do enough to protect him from bullying and harassment. A judge will now need to decide whether to accept or deny that motion.
“The Mohawk Central School District cooperated fully with representatives of the U.S. Justice Department back in December when they indicated an interest in this case,” said Superintendent of Schools Joyce Caputo. “We’ll continue to cooperate with them and welcome any recommendations they may provide as we go forward.
