One memorable quote from the poet Maya Angelou says, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

Perhaps the state Legislature had these words in mind last month when it finally passed the Dignity For All Students Act, an anti-bullying effort designed to rein in a practice that was for a long time brushed off as a form of rite of passage in schools. It is unlikely that anyone who attended middle or high school doesn’t have some recollection of an individual or group harassing another.
